Tempe and Cooks River Birds – 13 July 2024

I joined the Tempe Birdos for their monthly survey. This month I was in the group surveying the wetlands.

At the Wetlands, it was a relatively quiet morning. In particular we did not see a lot of the little birds we often find there. Here are some of the birds we saw –

Chestnut Teal

Great Egret

Australasian Grebe

Little Pied Cormorant

Great Egret

This was the same Egret we had seen earlier, but it had moved up to the top pond.

While walking to Tempe Reserve to join the other half or the group surveying there for morning tea, we heard a large flock of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos squawking noisily. Some thing had upset them.

We soon saw the reason. It was a White-bellied Sea Eagle

The Cockatoos encouraged the Sea Eagle to leave the area.

After  a friendly morning tea, I then decided to walk most of the way home via the Cooks River. I kept my camera out and photographed a few more birds along the way –

White-faced Heron

Little Pied Cormorant

Up near the SWSOOS I spotted a Sacred Kingfisher

It didn’t stay in the same spot for long and was hard to follow.

And one last bird, a Little Black Cormorant –
