I joined Sue for an interesting session of bird photography at Sydney Park. We were mainly wanting to find the Pacific Baza – which turned out to be very easy – we just had to listen for the pandemonium caused by Noisy Miners.
The Baza can be a difficult bird to photograph in the forest parts of the Park, where is hunts for food. But it does a lot of short flights as it searches for food, and provides plenty of opportunities. And every now and then it flies across an open area.
So here are some photos –
It has a caterpillar –
The Pacific Baza flew off, but we soon spotted it perched near the Island Pond.
Here it is being harassed by a Magpie Lark –
Another caterpillar.
The Baza is now looking a bit concerned. It is being dive-bombed by Noisy Miners.
And one more caterpillar.
Another bird photographer, Michael arrives. He is wife his wife Fiona and two friends. More eyes help with spotting the Baza as it moves through the forest.
It now has an insect.
More pandemonium from the other birds. A Black-shouldered Kite flies high above.
Back to the Baza –
And there are other birds in the Park.
Grey Butcherbird
Blue-tongued Skink
Little Pied Cormorant
White-faced Heron
This had been a very good session. It is great to see the Baza again. And thanks to Sue for great company on the visit.
Great pictures. Any sight of this spring’s cygnets yet?
No Black Swans resident at the Park at present – so no cygnets. They dont do very well in the Park due to changing water levels (which can flood nests), and then predation of cygnets by cats or foxes.
