Both Sue and Valerie were keen for another day out on Malabar Headland. It was the Monday of the long weekend, so there were a lot of other visitors walking past while we were sitting on the cliffs, but it turned out to be a very pleasant day.
When we reached the cliffs, we met two other bird watchers – Biggles and Deborah. No sign of the Peregrine Falcons, but quite a few Humpback Whales were passing on their journey south.
Many of the adults were swimming with calves –
I visited some nearby Beard Orchids.
Copper Beard Orchid – Calochilus campestris
Then back to the whales –
We were joined by Alana, on her daily walk, and we had a pleasant chat.
And then another visitor, spotted a large sea turtle and alerted us to its presence.
I then briefly spotted a Peregrine Falcon fly past lower down –
More Humpback Whales –
Caspian Tern
Australasian Gannet
Humpback Whales
And just as we were leaving, I spotted a Peregrine Falcon perched a fair way away on the cliffs. We made our way for a closer view.
We got very limited view of Peregrine Falcons during our visit. Perhaps their nesting has failed this season? We saw no prey being delivered to feed young or partners.
