I made another visit to the Northern Beaches, with the intention of first having a look at some sites at Warriewood, then spending the rest of the day at Long Reef. But there was enough to keep me busy at Warriewood, so that was where I spent my time.
I first visited Rat Park to check out the Osprey nest. Both adult birds were present, and I noticed they have relocated their nest to a different light pole.
One Osprey was sitting on a nearby light –
The second was sitting on the nest –
It was hard to see, but I thought there was at least one chick in the nest.
I then made a visit to nearby Turimetta Head. Last season, I had observed a breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons there, but on this visit I could see no sign of them. Perhaps they are nesting on a different cliff this season?
I then made my way back to Rat Park. Both adult Osprey were on the nest –
But one then flew back to the other pole –
I then visited Warriewood Wetlands and the adjacent Irrawong Reserve. Here are some birds I saw there –
Little Wattlebird
Superb Fairy-wren
Dusky Moorhen with chick –
These Australian Swamphens were attempting to mate. A third was nearby –
Something didn’t work out, so the male checks things –
And then resumes –
Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike
White-faced Heron
Pacific Black Duck
White-browed Scrubwren
Variegated Fairy-wren
Bell Miner
Variegated Fairy-wrens
Dusky Moorhen chick
White-faced Heron
Dollarbird
I was watching the Dollarbird when all of a sudden, a Brown Goshawk swooped down at it. The Dollarbird escaped, and the Goshawk flew off –
I then spotted the Brown Goshawk again –
