City Art and Architecture Walk – 21 August 2026

I joined Brain Everingham and party of walkers from the National Parks Association of NSW for a cultural city walk. We met at Circular Quay and then walked to Sydney University with many stops along the way. Some of the stops were related to a theme – the architect Harry Seidler.

Our first stop was at the old Customs House at Circular Quay.

I had not been inside this building before. Public access is allowed into the foyer. Through a glass floor, there is scale modern of the city –

And the interior is quite attractive.

We then visited the nearby Fairfax Fountain –

We then walked to the Australia Square tower.  This well known sculpture is outside –

The building was designed by Harry Seidler.

Next stop was Angel Place –

And we could see the AWA Tower –

We then walked towards UTS. On the way we saw this neo-gothic building –

And another unusual building –

We visited a very small art gallery hidden away near some restaurants.

We then visited the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building at UTS. This was designed by American architect Frank Gehry. The building has been called the “Crumpled Paper Bag”.

We then followed the old Goods Line.

Another st rising UTS building is the “Cheese Grater” –

We were then heading to the White Rabbit Gallery. On the way, we spotted an unusual artwork in the foyer of the Clare Hotel.

Brain engaged in conversation with a staff member, and he was happy to show us around. We visited the old Board Room, from when the building was part of the Tooths Kent Brewery.

On the way to the White Rabbit we went past this “Bird’s nest” sculpture.

We had a pleasant lunch in the White Rabbit Gallery  before visiting the art.

The White Rabbit Gallery is certainly an interesting and thought provoking place to visit.

We then continued our walk to Sydney University, where we visited the Chau Chak Wing Museum. They were holding a special Harry Seidler exhibition.
