Cooks River Birds Update – 23 October 2024

In the afternoon, I walked along the Cooks River, upstream from the Lang St Bridge up to Canterbury Road. I was mainly wanting to see how the Tawny Frogmouths were going.

I first stopped off at the cricket nets. I soon found that the Tawny Frogmouth chick had fledged. Here is the family –

Adult

Next – at Ewen Park, no change. An adult is still sitting on the nest.

Near the Foord St Bridge – some Superb Fairy-wrens

Now at the Boat Harbour. One Tawny Frogmouth on the nest –

I met up with local bird photographer Simin, and she showed me a Magpie Lark nest she had spotted. It was full of chicks –
