Here are some photos I took on the summit of Mt Kaputar on the evening of 29 October 2024. The evening was relatively cloud free. I was particularly interested in photographing Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS.
(15 seconds, f 1.8, 3200 ISO)
I was able to photograph the comet, but unfortunately it was not that bright by that stage in its orbit. You can see it in the middle of the above photo.
I did not take a very good lens for most of the subjects I was after. All these photos are taken with a 14 mm f 1.8 lens – which is excellent for Milky Way photography, but not the best for the comet.
I also had a go and finding and photographing the Andromeda Galaxy. The app I use on my phone – Stellarium, showed it should be visible in the early evening in the northern sky.
In the photo below, the slight smudge circled in red, just to the right of the Kaputar trig is Andromeda.

This photo is a heavily cropped version –

Here is the Milky Way, Venus (the brightest object) and Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS.

Cropping in on the comet –

And in this photo – I have cropped in to show Venus and the Comet –
(20 seconds, f 1.8, 3200 ISO)
And one more Milky Way photo –
(5 seconds, f 1.8, 3200 ISO)
All the photos were taken around 8:30 pm. Sunset was about an hour earlier.
