Birds at Nurragingy Reserve – 26 January 2025

Sue joined me for a day visiting Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside. She had never visited this Reserve and we both enjoyed a very good day.

We caught a train to Doonside, and then walked the short distance into the Reserve. After visiting the coffee cart, we set off to see what birds we could spot. The highlights were Sacred Kingfishers and Pacific Bazas. Here are some photos –

Brush Turkey

Sacred Kingfishers

Common Crow Butterfly

Yellow-faced Honeyeater

Eastern Spinebill

Olive-backed Oriole

Sacred Kingfisher

Turtle

White-faced Heron

Rainbow Lorikeet

We spotted this adult Pacific Baza. It was hunting for food to feed one of its chicks.

There was one juvenile Pacific Baza nearby. The juvenile has a brown throat while the adult has a grey throat.

It was calling for food.

It is about to be fed –

The adult flies to a different tree and is immediately harassed by a Noisy Miner.

And the juvenile has moved.

It flies to another tree.

And is fed –

This Sacred Kingfisher has a skink –

Water Dragon
