Blue Mountains Waterfall Trip – 21 August 2025

With a very wet day forecast, Bob and myself considered options. It looked like it was going to be too wet for a standard bushwalk, and we did consider a session of indoor climbing, but we ended up deciding to head up the Mountains and see what some of the waterfalls were like.

We ended up having a very good outing, although we did get quite wet and cold. As well as wearing parkas, we ended up using umbrellas most of the time.

Here are some photos –

Glenbrook Gorge

We first stopped at Glenbrook at the Bluff. We walked out past the Bluff Lookout and followed the track down to a small creek and then up the other side to the top of the old funicular, then to the top of the cliffs overlooking Glenbrook Gorge.

From here we could get a great view of Glenbrook Gorge and Moorakoo Falls.

Looking downstream –

Moorakoo Falls can only be seen after rain. It is one of a multitude of such waterfalls.

Glenbrook Creek was high, but not as high as I have seen before.

Reids Plateau and Katoomba Falls

Wow then headed up to Katoomba and walked out onto Reids Plateau. We expected some mist in the valley that would obscure waterfall views, but there is a shelter cave there that is quite protected and dry and a good place to wait to see if things will clear.

We didn’t have to wait too long.

Back to Katoomba Falls –

We then walked to Katoomba Cascades

Leura – Bridal Veil View Lookout

This lookout at Leura has recently been upgraded. It provides a very good view of Bridal Veil Falls, the upper waterfall of Leura Falls. The falls were flowing nicely.

We could also see another waterfall, further along the cliffs in the Katoomba direction. An un-named waterfall.

Leura – Gordon Falls

Gordon Falls is impressive after rain, but can it can be hard to get a good view of the whole falls due to vegetation.

We could also see the Three Sisters

We waited to see if the mist would clear enough to enable views of the next series of waterfalls – Lindeman Falls and Walford Falls.

Here you can see Lindeman Falls

You can also perhaps see a bit of Walford Falls.

Leura – Golf Links Lookout

Golf Links Lookout is the only lookout where you can see Microstrobos Falls. But it does need to be clear, and you also need a lot of rain for the waterfall to be apparent.

We waited to see if the mist would clear.

Microstrobos Falls

We then retreated to Bob’s car and headed to Wentworth Falls, where we stopped for refreshments at Fed. I think we had made the most of a rather wet day.
