Another visit to Malabar Headland. My main aim was to photograph Peregrine Falcons.

Waling out, the wildflowers were starting to look good. Here is a Philotheca sp –

Jacky Dragon

I could not spot any Peregrine Falcons perched on the cliffs, so I sat down to wait. I did spot a very distant White-bellied Sea Eagle –

And here are some passing Humpback Whales –

Then I spotted a Peregrine Falcon on the cliffs. I think it is the female.

I waited to see if the Peregrine Falcon would take off.
Here is a passing White-faced Heron –

Then another bird photographer arrived. It was Simin, who I know from the Mudlarks. I shoed here where the Peregrine Falcon was still perched –

Simin spotted a Turtle –

Then the Peregrine Falcon took off –

It flew along the cliffs out of sight –

Simin then had to leave, so I walked part way back with her towards Malabar. I was hoping to see some Sun Orchids. We spotted some, but they were all either just buds or fertilised old ones. This is the most open flower –

I the headed back to the cliffs. I saw a Peregrine Falcon on the cliffs

When I got closer, it had moved to another lower ledge. It was the male.

A passing Pelican –

Back to the Peregrine Falcon –

It seemed to have something to do got its beak –

It tried to lick it off –

Then wipe it off –

Then it wiped its beak on some Pigface –

It looked a bit better, but not perfect.

I had to wait a fair while for it to take off.

Then it was time to head home.
Great series with interesting behaviour noted.
Hi David. What camera and lens combo are you using for these shots?
For bird photography I am currently using a Sony A1 II and a Sony 300mm GM lens with a 2xTC.
