Mudlarks – Cooks River Bird Survey – 14 October 2025

I joined the Mudlarks for their monthly survey along the Cooks River. In daylight saving time the group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 am on the Lang Street Footbridge. This month the group surveyed downstream on the Wave Rock Circuit.

We saw a good number of species. Here are some –

Welcome Swallow

Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike

Magpie Lark

Australian Raven

Great Cormorants

Magpie Lark on nest

Olive-backed Oriole

Little Corellas

Australasian Darter

Australasian Figbirds

Juvenile Magpie

Grey Butcherbird

Little Pied Cormorant

Masked Lapwing

Rainbow Lorikeet

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

And pair of Tawny Frogmouths. One on a nest.

Then the group had morning tea at Ewen Park. After this a few of us went back for another look at the nesting Tawny Frogmouth. We found that there was at least one chick.
