Birds at Sydney Park – 23 February 2026

I met up with Sue and Valerie at Sydney Park at St Peters. We spent a pleasant few hours there looking at the local birds.

Walking down the ponds, we spotted an Australasian Darter on the gabion.

Lowe down, in the island pond – a pair of Pacific Black Ducks

An Australasian Swamphen –

Here is a baby Australian Ibis being fed –

Crested Pigeon

We then watched an Australasian Darter  hunting in the large pond.

It caught a nice fish –

It went underwater to readjust the fish.

For larger fish, Darters have to take them to the bank to get them off their bill.

After eating the fish, it has a drink.

Noisy Miners are very fussy about taking a bath.

And as we were leaving, we spotted a White-bellied Sea Eagle flying high overhead.

After coffee at the nearby Bearded Barista Cafe, we looked at this colourful and topical mural at the back of the Botany View Hotel –
