Bob was keen on a walk, and with a forecast for some warm humid weather, I suggested doing the Gabrugal Yana Walk in the Western Sydney Parklands. This, for us was an out and back walk from Cecil Hills. It turned out to be a very pleasant and interesting walk.

We started at the carpark for the Wylde BMX and Mountain bike park at Cecil Hills.

A feature of the Gabrugal Yana Walk is the art along the track created by local indigenous artists.

The walk passes through quite nice woodlands.

More art –

Behind the art tree, there is a temporary fence – this is for an about to be opened cycleway.
The track is well marked.

The track passes close to several wetlands.

Australasian Grebe

The largest wetland is the Liverpool Offtake Reservoir.

This was once a quarry, then a water supply for Liverpool. Now disused.

Black Swan

Greater Crested Grebes

Spotted Pardalotes

The water supply canal going to Prospect Reservoir.

Then two helicopters arrived. It looked like they were practising filling up water from the reservoir.

Eastern Grey Kangaroos

Climbing to Hinchinbrook Trig –

There is a small basalt intrusion here.

At Hinchinbrook Trig –

We then started to walk back, stopping for lunch at a seat above the reservoir.

Black-shouldered Kite

It was a pleasant walk back to Cecil Hills.

This was a worthwhile walk.
