West Head Aboriginal Art Walk – 28 May 2026

Wet weather was forecast, so we decided on a walk on West Head to view some Aboriginal engravings. These are often a lot easier to discern when the rock platforms are wet. In the party was Bob, Doug, Nipper, Airdrie and myself.

The first site we visited was  rock platform close to the road that features mainly fish and mundoes. But there is also an echidna engraving –

We then headed to West Head Lookout. Here we got great views of Barrenjoey.

We next visited a small Aboriginal art cave. This has a number of red ochre hand stencils.

We next visited another very well known engraving site, a short way along the basin trail.

And then for lunch, we headed along a fire road to an overhang that provides a sheltered spot for lunch.
