Wolli Creek Nature Walk – 31 October 2016

I spent an afternoon walking along the Two Valleys Track down Wolli Creek between Bexley North and Turrella. I can’t recall walking down the valley at this time of the year before and I was interested to see if any orchids were out.

Early on the walk, I disturbed a rather large and healthy looking Red Belied Black Snake sunning itself on the track. It slithered off too quickly for a photo unfortunately.

After crossing the road at Bardwell Park I did spot a few orchids – but only buds, no flowers. So another visit will be needed soon.

Lower down, I stopped and spent a fair bit of time photographing the Flying Foxes.

At this time of the year, some of the female flying foxes have babies. Their young cling to the mother, even when the mother is flying. This is hard to see and is best captured by photos. But they too are hard to get.

Its good to see birds, plants and other animals doing quite well in this nice patch of remnant bush.

Hi David, Your Emerald Dove I think is the first sighting for Wolli Creek & sightings in Sydney are scarce – do you mind if I post your observation to Birdline NSW & wolli-birds?
