Thor Head Walk 16 – 17 May 2017

I did a pleasant overnight trip to Thor Head on the Asgard Plateau area of the Upper Grose Valley. I wanted to have a high camp right on the head. This would put me in a good position for photography at sunset and sunrise.

I walked out to the Head from Mt Victoria.

It had been a few years since I had last camped out there, and on the previous trip there had been quite atmospheric conditions with a nice thunderstorm. This time conditions were nice but much blander.

The Lost Pillar

Here are some photos –

I also took my small drone out to the head and did some flying and shot video. I could fly it across the valley to film the very spectacular Lost Pillar at Dalpurra Head. Here is my resulting video from YouTube –

As well as the Lost Pillar, you can obtain a good view of another detached pinnacle from Thor Head – this one is near Liversidge Hill –

More photos are online on my website here.

Hey Dave, I’m really impressed by the aerial footage – what drone are you using? It’s producing both good image quality and great smoothness – I would guess a DJI but you describe it as “small”. Spark or Mavic, maybe? Great work, as always!
