Last weekend was quite a wet weekend. I had wanted to photograph the Grose River and Blue Gum Forest again – and thought the soft lighting of dull weather might be good. Unfortunately, rain prevented a lot of photography. However, any trip to the Grose is nice. On this walk I was joined by Sarah, who was up on a short visit from Canberra.
Sarah’s partner, James dropped us off at the Victoria Falls lookout (and picked us up at the end of the walk – thanks James! He was feeling too crook to join us). We set off in light rain for Victoria Falls. The creek nearby is very attractive and some of the cascades are very photogenic. It was worth me carting along a tripod.
Then we continued down to Burra Korain Flat and along the Grose River. The track was in very good condition. Blow down from strong wind last year had been cleared away or chainsawed and we made rapid progress. It was too misty to be able to see the canyons and rock climbs that line this part of the Grose Gorge. Near Little Blue Gum we passed a big party of day walkers. They were on a trip from Mt Victoria to Perrys Lookdown.
Blue Gum Forest was splendid as usual. The continuing rain kept is on the track to Acacia Flat. Once there we set up tents and tarps, and then headed back to Blue Gum Forest. Me for a few photos and Sarah for some sketching.
On Sunday, we set off along Govetts Creek for Junction Rock and then we continued to Syncarpia and out via the Grand Canyon – always a nice way to exit the Grose Valley. This route also allowed us to have lunch in one of the numerous dry overhangs of the Grand Canyon.
The waterfalls leading up to Beauchamp Falls on the way to the Grand Canyon are truly magic. Especially when their flow is rejuvenated by rain. My camera and tripod opportunities. Sarah found a small umbrella handy to she could sketch in the rain.
