Middle Harbour Creek Walk – 17 August 2017

This was a pleasant walk from St Ives to Roseville Bridge mainly along a good track on the banks of Middle Harbour Creek in Garigal National Park.

I met up with Bob on the bus. I joined the bus (197) at Gordon Station. This bus service goes to Frenchs Forest via Mona Vale Road. We got off at the corner of Kitcheners Road.  The end of that road offers convenient access to the bush.

We walked along the Kitcheners East Trail and it soon joined the Treeloppers Trail which we follow down to Bare Creek. There it joined another trail – the Bare Creek Trail which we followed to The Cascades. All along this section there had been good wildflowers.

The Cascades is a large open rocky area of creekbed. This would be nice to visit when the creeks were in high flow – but then they may be hard to cross.

From The Cascades, we left the fire roads and started down the track along the true left bank of Middle Harbour Creek. The track was well cleared and easy and pleasant walking.

At one point, a pipeline crosses Middle Harbour Creek. Here a fire road comes down, and this is close to the total limit. This was where we stop for lunch. This was also the place where I had been to a few weeks earlier via sea kayak on a bush regeneration activity.

A little lower down, the track has to deviate a fair way up a side creek – Carroll Creek to reach a suitable crossing place. From there to Roseville Bridge is very fast walking.

At Roseville Bridge, we walked towards Killarney Heights to reach a bus stop, just as a bus turned up that took us to Chatswood Station.

More photos of the walk are online here on my website.
