Malabar National Park Walk – 16 January 2018

Powerful surf conditions were forecast, so I thought it would be nice to do coastal walk. So I caught a bus to Maroubra and set off along the new track into Malabar National Park.

Nankeen Kestrel

It was quite windy and some light train was falling. But the impressive waves pounding the beach and cliffs made up for any discomfort.

A lot of the smaller birds like the honeyeaters were sheltering in the heath, so I was not able to photograph them. But I did manage to see a few larger birds. A White Faced Heron looked a bit worse for wear –

The bird highlight was seeing a nice Nankeen kestrel sitting on the top of the cliff.

It later flew off –

I continued walking out towards Magic Point – the first headland.

You need to leave the track to reach the far point of the headland.

I then continued on to Boora Point – which is the furtherest point east.

I then walked the short distance from there to Malabar. I had thought of continuing south to La Perouse, but it was too windy for comfortable walking, so I had lunch and then caught a bus back to the city.

More photos from the walk are online here on my website.
