This was a pleasant walk, but undertaken on a very hot day, along part of Middle Harbour in Garigal National Park. We walked from Carroll Creek down to Middle Harbour Creek and then to Roseville Bridge. Then a little further along the foreshore (and some road walking) to Flat Rock Beach and then into Bantry Bay and out near Bates Creek. On the walk were Keith, Rose, Chris and myself.
We met at the end of Fergusson Street at Forestville. We then entered the National Park and took the track down to Carroll Creek. A short way along, we noticed a nice Green Tree Snake in a tree close to the track.
It is easy pleasant walking down to Middle Harbour Creek, then more easy walking along the foreshore to Davidson Park. Along the way we passed a few middens.
We then passed under Roseville Bridge and continued along the foreshore path. But, not too far along, the track is closed, and we had to take a detour up to one of the roads and then do seem rather boring road walking, past Killarney Point to regain tracks near Flat Rock Beach. Chris left us near Roseville Bridge to walk back to his car, as he was feeling the heat.
We cooled off at the small and rather private Flat Rock Beach. A good place for a swim and also a good place to stop for lunch.
After some more swimming, we continued on our way. Now on a nice track along the foreshore once again.
As we entered Bantry Bay, we passed some magazines. The track here deviates around a boundary fence and is quite rough. Once past the magazines, the track crosses a few small creeks and becomes a fire road.
We then crosses Bates Creek and climbed up a dogleg section to leave the track at Cook Street. From there it was a short walk back to Forestville.
More photos from this pleasant walk are online here on my website. Thanks to Keith for the organisation.
I tried to teach the Roseville Bridge twice, without a map, from Davidson and on the second attempt reached Forestville (so near and yet so far)!
Keith, if you are going to do this walk again I would like to tag along and I’ll fill in my contact details now. Love that photo of the Green Tree Snake and I recognise much of the scenery from my previous walks (so happy about seeing the highlights – red gums, split rock etc.) …… but I need to “take that bridge”!
Cheers,
Graeme.
