More Birds and Flowers at Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park – 12 September 2018

I spent another delightful day along the Chiltern Trail in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park photographing the birds and wildflowers. Here are some of the highlights of my visit.

First, some wildflowers –

And the wildflowers bring out the honeyeaters. They eat the nectar and also the insects that also feed on the nectar. Here is a selection of the ones I saw.

Yellow-tufted Honeyeater

White-cheeked Honeyeater

New Holland Honeyeater

White-eared Honeyeater

I also saw and heard quite a few Spotted Pardalotes. Lower down the trail I saw one perched in a branch. It was spending some time preening itself. I recorded the event with my camera –

Nearby was a small group of Glossy Black Cockatoos.

And then a bit further up I observed a group of new Spotted Pardalote holes, so I waited quietly in case some birds were nearby. I was not disappointed. One flew and perched near the holes and then did a preening routine.

It then flew into the hole and seemed to do a bit of excavating.

It was then joined by its mate.

I then observed a Silvereye having a drink from a small rockpool –

It was then time to head home. It had been a very pleasant and interesting day.
