Birds at Tempe and the Cooks River – 13 October 2018

I spent an enjoyable morning at Tempe Wetlands with the Tempe Birdos, taking part in their monthly survey. The rain held off and we had an interesting time wandering around listening for the birds and trying to spot them.

Black-faced Monarch

It was fairly quiet on the day. One bird we spotted that was new to me was a Black-faced Monarch. Nice to see. Apart from that, there were the usual residents. Here are some of the honeyeaters –

New Holland Honeyeater

White-plumed Honeyeater

Red Wattlebird

Some of the other birds –

Wood Duck

Reed Warbler

Superb Fairy-wren

Silvereye

Australasian Figbird

Currawong (juvenile)

The Tempe Birdos sessions ends with morning tea at Tempe Reserve, and after that I cycled up the Cooks River to see what else was out. Again fairy quiet.

I checked out the Tawny Frogmouths – no change from a few days earlier.

Nearby where a pair of Galahs.

They later joined a big flock of Corellas and Sulphur Crested Cockatoos.

    Hi David,

I wasn’t able to get to your presentation to the CRVA a few weeks ago, but would love to see your images of birds from Cooks River and Tempe. In particular, my favourite the yellow-tailed black cockatoo 😉

Are you are presenting again? Or should I just trawl through your blog posts?
cheers & thanks for sharing your beautiful photos.

Have no current plans to repeat the presentation. I think you will have to hunt through my blog – but use the filter tools – eg click on the tag “Cooks River Birds” or “Tempe Wetlands”. I think the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos appear during Spring.
