Taronga Zoo – 20 October 2018

I had been a while since I had visited the Zoo, and also possible thunderstorms had been predicted – and I thought the Zoo may be a good place for some storm watching if a thunderstorm passed over the city. And there is also plenty of shelter at the Zoo if it does get really wet.

But visiting on a weekend also meant large crowds of people, but this wasn’t a major problem. Here are some of the photos from my visit. First some honeyeaters – Regent Honeyeaters, a Blue-faced Honeyeater and a Striped Honeyeater.

The Regent Honeyeaters are a critically endangered species, and ire in the Zoo for a captive breeding program. Its a shame however, that one of their major breeding grounds in the wild looks like being destroyed by State Government plans to raise Warragamba Dam.

Some more birds  –

And the young Langur was active (for a while) –

The Bird Show (I went to both sessions – noon and 3 pm) –

Some of the other animals –

And what of the predicted thunderstorm? I did hit, but later when I was at home –
