I made a visit to see the outdoor sculptures at Sculpture By the Sea, which is held each year along the Coastal Path between Tamarama and Bondi Beach. After that, I continue waking north to Watsons Bay, where I caught a ferry back to the city.
The sculptures are always interesting and well worth seeing. Quite a few of them look almost like repeats from previous years, with slight modifications. Perhaps that is due to the artistic style and the materials used by the various sculptors. Others are quite refreshingly different. Here are some of my photos –
I started my visit at Tamarama and then walked north to Bondi Beach. At one point, I stopped taking photos of the sculptures as I was distracted by some breaching whales. I made a quick exchange of cameras.
Then back to the sculptures –
Past Bondi I continued along the Coastal Path to the cliffs above Dover Heights. I was looking for raptors – but on the trip I didn’t see any. I did photograph some Superb Fairy-wrens and some New Holland Honeyeaters.
At the Macquarie Lighthouse I spotted a person on the other side of the safety fence. There are many signs along here, saying to call the emergency number if you see anybody on that side of the fence. But this person didn’t look too suicidal. He had climbing helmet and a harness for abseiling.
Further along, I could look along the cliffs and see what he was doing. He was in a group of three. They had ropes set up and were about to abseil down. I expect them to be checking out an old WWII tunnel that had been recently reported in the Sydney Morning Herald.
In that same area, and just past the abseilers, on previous visits I had seen and photographed what looks like a man made entrance. Here it is –
I stopped a while at Gap Bluff looking for whales and birds – without much luck.
Thanks for your pictures, David!
Will be going tomorrow
