Nurragingy Reserve – 19 December 2018

I headed back out to Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside hoping to get more photos of the Sacred Kingfishers feeding their chick. However, when I arrived it was looking like the nest has now been vacated. I did not see any Kingfishers nearby.

Pacific Baza

I did see and hear some Sacred Kingfishers in the Reserve. Perhaps one of these is the fledgling?

But I also saw a large Water Dragon in the same area as the nest. I wonder if they climb trees and raid nests?

Also, in one of the pools I spotted some rather large carp like fish. They had come to the surface after air.

I also encountered a pair of Pacific Bazas. They were flying around, calling each other, perching, but not staying long in any spot. I was lucky to get some photos of one of them –

This was the first time I had photographed these interesting raptors.

I also went to the Tawny Frogmouth nest a few times. The parent often obscures the chicks and multiple visits give the best chance of seeing the chicks. Here are some photos –

I also was lucky to spot the blue flash of a small Kingfisher flying past me at one of the Duck Ponds. I later saw it on a perch and managed to get a few photos of it with some prey.

It then flew off into a thicket.

On my previous visit, I had seen some newly arrived Dusky Moorhen chicks. These had now grown a fair bit –

And some of the other birds and garland scenery –
