This was a pleasant trip with two days of canyoning in the Blue Mountains. We experienced hot weather on both days – and the canyons provided an idea refuge from the heat. The plan was to visit The Grand Canyon at Blackheath, then a pub dinner, camp overnight, then Dalpura Canyon on the second day.
The Grand Canyon
A good way to end the year. This canyon is always nice to visit and easy to get to and from – so not too taxing on a hot day. Most of the party abseiled in at the top of the canyon, while four in the party entered from below.
Party – Abseilers – Martin, Steffy, Damon, James, Michellen, Dave. And from below – John, Chuin Nee, Jasper and Seby.

We now met up with the others.
Lower down we spotted a nice Rose Robin.
Perrys Lookdown and Anvil Rock
We camped overnight at Perrys Lookdown. After setting up the tents, we went to the lookout, and then to a better lookout at Anvil Rock.
It looked like a storm was coming – but it hit while we were in the pub having dinner. It was fine by the time we got back to our campsite.
I got up early the next morning for the sunrise – but it was not particularly good.
A pair of Rock Warblers were near the lookout. Here is one of them –
Dalpura Canyon
A short walk in and out – and some nice easy sections of beautiful canyon. A short abseil that is OK for children (with appropriate adult help)
Party – Martin, Steffy, Damon, Bernard,Helen, Rowan, Julie, John, Chuin Nee, Jasper, Seby and Dave

The native cockroach was in a Eucalypt. It is Polyzosteria limbata, the Botany Bay cockroach (thanks to Peter woodard for the id)
The eucalypt is probably E. stricta.
