I spent a pleasant morning at Oatley Park on a photographic walk led by Brian Everingham for the National Parks Association of NSW. We were also fortunate to have Melina from the Oatley Flora and Flora Conservation Society join us as she was very willing to share her knowledge and love of the Park with us.
We started on one of the tracks that led to the beach and swimming area. Along the way, we spotted quite a bit of fungi and some Bonnet Orchids, as well as plenty of birds and spiders.
Then after a break, we continued around the foreshore towards Lime Kiln Bay. More birds and fungi.
Then we walked along the track on the western boundary of Lime Kiln Bay. Early on, we heard and spotted some Spotted Pardalotes.
Later, on the mangrove boardwalk, we saw a pair of Kookaburras drilling a nest hole into a large termite nest high in a tree. One of the birds would fly to the tree, do a little drilling, get tired, then fly off for a rest.
We also saw a lot more fungi out.
And an Eastern Spinebill.
We then visited the wetland area. Lots of lizards were out.
And some birds. Little Pied Cormorant, Great Egret, Grey Fantail and a Silvereye –
We then made our way back the top oval where the cars were parked. Then a short drive to Oatley for lunch and refreshments.
