Birds at Tempe – 5 April 2019

It was forecast to be a wet day. More “occasional showers” rather then heavy rain. I thought a morning visit to Tempe Wetlands and Tempe Reserve to photograph the birdlife could be good.

A fair number of birds were out at the Wetlands. I spotted some honeyeaters, but not as many as I was hoping for. Here is a White-plumed honeyeater and a New Holland Honeyeater.

Some of the other birds at the Wetlands –

Also, an Eurasian coot seemed  to have made a nest on a small island –

I then walked around Tempe Reserve. A short while later, it started raining, so I sheltered for half and hour or so in a picnic shelter. Here, I watched a Kookaburra being harassed by Noisy Miners. The Kookaburra tried to ignore the Miners.

Then all of a sudden, the Miners flew rapidly away.

The other birds in the Reserve seemed unsettled, taking to the air.

A raptor was overhead. A Brown Goshawk.

The raptor moved off, and things returned to normal. Later I noticed the Kookaburra on another lamppost. It was again being harassed by Noisy Miners.

Further around, I spotted a pair of Red-rumped Parrots –

And a flock of Red-browed Finches were enjoying some seeds –

And a Willie Wagtail trying to look tough –
