Birds in the Eastern Suburbs – 2 May 2019

I spent an interesting day in the Eastern Suburbs photographing birds. I started at Centennial Park and then in the afternoon headed out to Dover Heights and walked along the Coastal Track to Watsons Bay.

At Centennial Park, a lot of birds were out and active. Here are some –

Cormorants

Spoonbills

Egrets

Darters

Corellas

Powerful Owl

Whistling Kite White-bellied Sea Eagle (with Ravens)

Nankeen Night Heron

Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos

Masked Lapwing

And some other animals.

Flying Foxes

Turtles

At Dover Heights. I walked from Rodney Reserve north. I didn’t see too many birds along the way. I was mainly looking for raptors. They normally prefer windy conditions and it was not very breezy. There seemed to be quite a few wedding photos being taken along the cliffs.

At Christison Park, Vaucluse, I did see a Nankeen Kestrel – but it did not stay around for long.

And not much at The Gap except for some Gannets –

And then a ferry trip back to the city.

    Hi Dave,
    wonderful photos, as usual!
That’s actually an immature White-bellied Sea Eagle with the ravens, rather than a Whistling Kite.
    Keep up the great shots!

Thanks for pointing out my error Steve. I thought it looked the same as the raptor I had seen the day before at Nurragingy, thats other had identified as a Whistling Kite. Will need to look more closely at the photos.
