Birds at Warriewood Wetlands – 14 May 2019

I travelled up to the Northern Beaches to visit Warriewood Wetlands and the adjoining Irrawong Reserve to look for and photograph birds. I didn’t have too much success spotting unusual birds on this visit.

I got off the B-line us at Warriewood and walked the short way past the shopping centre to the wetlands. There were lots of noisy Rainbow Lorikeets near the entrance.

I walked slowly through the wetlands and then entered Irrawong Reserve and continued to the waterfall without seeing or hearing too many birds. I climbed the track up the hill on the far side of the creek, and then returned. On the way back, I had more success.

I spotted a Lewin’s Honeyeater very close to the track –

Then I saw a nice Eastern Yellow Robin. I stayed around for a while in variety of poses allowing for some reasonable photos. The only problem was that it was in a very dark area.

Back in Warriweood Wetlands I next photographed a Grey Fantail doing a variety of poses.

In one of the pools a pair of Pacific Black Ducks were getting close and personal.

And a few of the other birds –

I then walked further down Mullet Creek near a sports field. I was on the lookout for a Bittern that was reportedly in the area. I had no success finding it. I did see a Darter however –

Then I walked back through the Wetlands on the track to the settling ponds – without finding any more interesting birds.

    HI David
I am writing a story for our report about this Warriewood Wetlands
for the Aboriginal Heritage Office. I am the Education Officer
May I please use some of your beautiful photos of these birds
A may also write an article for our newsletter Yarnupings
I get so upset when people bring their dogs through and their bikes
This as you know is illegal. It endangers every bird and creature who have so few places to live
