Bushells Lagoon had been a very good venue for bird photography on my two earlier visits, so thought another visit could also be fruitful. It was.
Its a good place to look for and photograph raptors. A soon as I arrived I spotted a Whistling Kite flying around. It then perched for a while in a tree near the Lane.
Here are some more raptors I observed early on. The first is probably a juvenile Swamp Harrier –
And another Swamp Harrier –
I was also on the lookout for the Australian Bittern, and hoped to get better photograph of it. I was lucky – as I spotted it early on in the swamp area looking for food.
A bit later in the day, its wanderings brought it close to a pair of Swamp Hens which it disturbed, and then they erupted and so the Bittern made a short flight to leave their vicinity.
Later in the day, it made another flight.
With other bird watchers and photographers there, we also thought we saw a second Bittern further out in the swamp.
There were also a number of smaller birds. Here are some Reed Warblers –
And some Golden headed Cisticolas –
There was also a flock of Chestnut-breasted Mannikins –
And a few Superb Fairy-wrens. Here is one –
And some of the water birds –
I also photographed two skirmishes between raptors and ravens. The first was a distant Swamp Harrier –
Later a Whistling Kite had to endure a Raven trying to force it away.
Some of the other raptors. First a Nankeen Kestrel –
And a Black-shouldered Kite –
There were also a few White-plumed Honeyeaters.
it had been another good day.
