A wet weekend was forecast – but we had three birthdays to celebrate. Jasper was about to turn one. It was also major birthdays for Digi Dave and Gab, as well as Rik’s birthday. So we thought a good place for a party in the bush would be the campsite at the head of the Dry Canyon.
This turned out to be a good plan. We did have a fair bit of rain – but most of it fell on Saturday night. With a lot of fine food and drink to share, and great company, we had a very pleasant evening.
We also had time to explore the Dry Canyon. I went down on Saturday afternoon and then again on Sunday morning. Others in the party visited the canyon on Saturday night to see the glow worm display.
Of all the canyons in the Greater Blue Mountains, the Dry Canyon would be one of the easiest to visit. But despite this – it is still quite a spectacular canyon. It has two sections of constriction – the lower, second one being longer, darker and a lot bette than the upper one.
At the end of the lower constriction, it is possible to wander around to a large boulder and get some views of the Wolgan Valley, but it is far better to climb out of the canyon between the two constrictions on the southern side and then explore along the top of the canyon as far as the Wolgan cliffline.
On Sunday afternoon, I went with Digi Dave and Don to check out some of the lookouts of Mt Victoria. The rain had stopped and the sun was out, but there was also a cold wind blowing from the south.
We first went to Mitchells Lookout, and then out to the Historic Wells and Mt York and finished on Sunset Rock Lookout at Mt Victoria. We were rewarded with a fine sunset!

Thought it looked familiar. Also known as Wolgan View canyon. Excellent photos.
Wow! Yet again you show how beautiful the Australian canyons can be. Hopefully I will get the chance to explore them one day in not to distant future.
