It was time to head back to Oatley Park to see what birds were out. The day started off fairly quiet – not that many birds were out, but later in the day, things got a little better.
I started by visiting the wetlands at Lime Kiln Bay. A few of the usual birds were around.
I then followed the track on the west side and across the footbridge.
At the start of the road, I noticed a lot of birds seemed to be alarmed and then spotted some Ravens trying to drive off a raptor. I quickly took some photos. The raptor turned out to be a Brown Goshawk.
I then followed the road up – and located one Tawny Frogmouth as well as the more common Lorikeets and Cockatoos.
On the track around the headland, I saw a small flock of Variegated Fairy-wrens.
Further around were some there small birds – a White-browed Scrubwren and a Brown Thornbill.
At the lookouts, there was not much to see. Across the bay I could see an Osprey nest on top of a crane –
After a lunch break, I headed back down to Lime Kiln Bay. Again, it was still fairly quiet. I met another bird photographer – Chris, and we compared notes. I then moved back up to the wetlands.
Walking around slowly, I spotted an Eastern Spinebill eating nectar from a Bottlebrush.
It soon flew away, but patient waiting paid off. It reappeared on a Banksia. I was able to get a nice series of photos.
I then noticed a group of Variegated Fairy-wrens –
I finished with some more small birds, a female Golden Whistler and a Yellow-rumped Thornbill –
