Birds at Tempe – 24 September 2019

I spent a very enjoyable morning in the Tempe area with Brian Everingham and others (Valerie, Sue, Jan and Helen) from the National Parks Association.

We met at Wolli Creek station and then walked over to Cahill Reserve on the Cooks River. On the mudflats were some of the usual birds – Herons, Ibis and a Magpie Lark collecting mud for its nest.

We then walked along the path over the Cooks River and circumnavigated Tempe Reserve.  We saw a Black-faced Cuckooshrike –

Then out along the pipeline along the Alexandria Canal and back through the wastelands near the Container Terminal. Here we saw a Cisticola, but it was a bit shy for photography.

And a Silvereye –

There was a large number of very noisy New Holland Honeyeaters –

We finished with a loop around Tempe Wetlands. Here are some of the birds –

Above is a Red Wattlebird. Next are two photos of a Willie Wagtail.

A Welcome Swallow about to grab an insect –

And a Water Skink –

It was now lunchtime. The others headed off back home. I went back to Tempe Reserve and had lunch. In the afternoon I caught a bus out to Barton Park for some more bird photography.
