This was another very nice day spent out in Malabar Headland National Park photographing the birds.
On the way out, I stopped to photograph some New Holland Honeyeaters –
It was a warm day, and a lot of lizards were out. Here are a few –
And a Superb Fairywren –
Also a number of whales cruised past –
And the whales were not the only things that cruised past. Here is some sort of military flotilla –
But, my main focus, was the Peregrine Falcons. One was around earlier in the day. Patience was needed to wait for it to take off.
And some more –
This time, the Falcon had spotted something it didn’t like way out to sea. It was a Sea Eagle.
It returned and landed on a high perch, on top of the cliffs. These are good places to get photos as it takes off. And in such places you don’t have to wait long for it to take off –
It the landed on its original perch. Again more waiting to see if it would take off again.
It did another flight. This time I missed the take off.
This time, it took off to rejoin its mate which had returned. Some great flying.
Both falcons flew off.
It was about time for me to head off too. On my way out, I photographed another New Holland Honeyeater trying unsuccessfully to grab an insect –
In the photo above you can just see the insect behind the bird.
And a last photo of the first Flannel Flower to open up –
Lovely.
I wonder if the New Holland Honeyeater was a baby? Lots of birds nested very early this year.
