Blue Mountains Heritage Walk – 31 October 2019

This was another walk I did with Bob, in a series to try and locate some Aboriginal heritage sites in the Blue Mountains. In particular, on the trip we were looking for cave art.

We had done some research into possible likely areas to visit, and Bob had been able to obtain a grid reference to what could be a very good site. The trouble was, that it was a long walk to it and then back to where we parked Bob’s car. It was also a rather hot day. We didn’t have too many big hills to climb was we would be following a ridge, at first along a fire road, and then along an overgrown fire road, and then through bush to get to where we hope the site was.

Because it was a long way, we didn’t have time to explore and check out other potential sites along the way. We passed rock platforms that could have had engravings or grinding grooves for example.

The walk, although quite long, was fairly straightforward and we didn’t have to navigate too much except for he last part. But when we reached the likely location, we could not locate any suitable caves. And walking around the base of scrubby cliffline was tiring work.

After lunch, I waited in the shade, while Bob made one last and futile attempt. Then it was time to head back – the reverse of the long walk we had already done. Forunately we had both carried a fair bit of water. We certainly needed it.
