In the morning, I had joined the local bird group for a survey along the Greenway. Later in the day, I cycled down to the Cooks River to check the status of the Tawny Frogmouths and then continued on to Landing Lights Wetland at Barton Park.
The nesting pair of Tawny Frogmouths on the Cooks River near Younger St seem unchanged. One is still sitting on the nest and the other was perched nearby. No signs of any chicks that have hatched that I could see – although they may have been hidden under the adult. Last year the pair exhibited the same thing – without any young hatching.
I then continued to Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands. There were plenty of Dusky Moorhen chicks.
I then crossed the river. No sign of the Tawny Frogmouths at the Dog Area or the Boat Harbour. I continued down the river to Gough Whitlam Park. After a bit of searching, I located the Tawny Frogmouths family. The chicks have now fledged.
Next stop was Landing Lights Wetland. Here are some of the birds there –
Pied Stilts
Great Egrets
White-faced Heron
Welcome Swallow
Fairy Martins
And a few more, a Common Myna with some plastic.
A Brown Honeyeater?
Up on the higher level at Barton Park – it was fairly quiet. Here is a Superb Fairy-wren
And a pair of Laughing Kookaburras, one eating a lizard.
