Wolli Creek and Cooks River Nature Walk – 19 January 2020

I spent a pleasant day walking down the Two Valleys Track along Wolli Creek from Bexley North to Tempe, then I continued on the same track up the Cooks River to the Boat Harbour. It had rained recently, and I was on the lookout for fungi and slime moulds, but I also carried my light bird camera.

Not that much fungi was out. I did manage to spot a few species out along Wolli Creek. Here are some –

Polyporus arcularius

Mycena sp.

I did come across a number of slime moulds. Two different species –

Lycogala epidendrum

Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa

Here are some of the birds along Wolli Creek –

Silvereye

New Holland Honeyeater

Australian Reed-waarbler

?

Brown Goshawk 

Grey Butcherbird

White-faced Heron

Little Pied Cormorant

Superb Fairy-wren

And I also spotted a nice Red-bellied Black Snake

And the Flying Foxes also seemed OK in the heat.

Some other aspects of Nature –

At Tempe, I continued along the path (The Two Valleys Track) along the Cooks River, through Gough Whitlam Park, then all the way along to the Boat Harbour. I ddi not see to many interesting birds until the Boat Harbour. There I watched a small Striated Heron catching fish –

Intermediate Egret

Australian Pelican

White-faced Heron

And a Semaphore Crab
