Nature at Birdwood Gully – 20 January 2020

I spent a pleasant morning catching up with Don, and old friend, who lives at Springwood. We made a short walk down to Birdwood Gully to check out any fungi, wildflowers and birds.

Black-faced Monarch

It was nice to set off in light rain. Pleasant conditions.

We found a bit of fungi out, but not a huge amount. Perhaps too early in the season and the rain we had was not enough? Here is some –

Jelly Fungus – Calocera sp.

Mycena sp.

Collybia sp.

We also found quite a few slime moulds. All Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa.

Don spotted one orchid – Dipodium roseum

And we saw quite a few birds –

Yellow-faced Honeyeater

Black-faced Monarch

Variegated Fairy-wren

Red-browed Finch

Here is a Water Skink

We also saw a large number of dead and dying trees. Sad to see in the rainforest.
