Birds at Barton Park – 15 February 2020

I made a cycle trip to Barton Park to check out the local birdlife. It was a warm day, so I only expected to stay the morning. I arrived and first visited Landing Lights Wetland.

It was fairly quiet. I ddi see a number of Pied Stilts and a few Herons and Cormorants. Overhead there were some Welcome Swallows seeking insects. Here are some photos –

Pied Stilts

Australian Darter

White-faced Herons

Starlings

Pelican

Pied Cormorant

Great Egret

I then walked down the canal. On the way I disturbed a Striated Heron. It flew off and perched further down.

There were plenty of fish in the canal –

I then climbed up to the old stadium. I spotted a Raven with what looks like a mouse –

And I also spotted a perched Nankeen Kestrel. It took off and flew a bit, hovering and hunting for prey, and I was able to get some reasonable photos –
