Birdwood Gully Fungi – 13 March 2020

I was able to join Liz for another day hunting for fungi at Birdwood Gully at Springwood. We were on the lookout for some special fungi we had seen last year – in particular a beautiful pink coral fungus, and an interesting gomphus.

We had a very good day and found a lot of interesting fungi – and also some slime moulds and quite a few orchids. It was also great to see quite a few waxcaps. Here are some –

They all appear to be Hygrocybe miniata. This cluster, map perhaps be Cuphophyllus virgineus –

Now for some Entolomas –

And quite a few Boletes –

Some of the coral fungi –

We did not find the pink coral fungus. But we did spot some Gomphus starting to develop –

The blue staining seems typical for this species early on as it develops. In previous years, we have also found what appears to be the same species growing is Sassafras Gully on the other side of Springwood.

Here is some nice Cyptotrama asprata

And some of the other fungi –

Now for the slime moulds –

And some of the orchids –

We finished off at Birdwood Gully, then we made a visit to a spot at Winmalee where Liz had earlier spotted some Entoloma viriscens. It was nice to see these amazing coloured fungi, and thanks to Liz for showing me them.
