Lane Cove Valley Walk – 14 April 2020

This was another exercise walk – along the Lane Cove River from Thornleigh to Browns Waterhole (and a bit beyond), and then out to Eastwood via Terrys Creek. Along the way I found a fair bit of fungi out.

Here are some that I found along the first bit of the walk, along the Lane Cove River –

Not far before the junction with Devlins Creek, I looked at one small area, where I had on the previous trip and last year found some interesting fungi. Some were out again –

These are Rimbachia cf. bryophila. Nearby where some Helvella fibrosa ( = Helvella chinensis) –

At Browns Waterhole, I continued on for another twenty minutes to check out some more fungi. I found another of what I think is Hydnellum fraudulentum out –

And an old one –

The nearby Trumpet Fungi was a looking a bit worse for wear –

Also nearby was this polypore. Perhaps a Thelophora sp.? –

I had lunch while sitting on a rock near Browns Waterhole. A Kookaburra was also having lunch –

Here is some of the fungi I found along Terrys Creek on y walk out.

I found another location that had Helvella fibrosa –

The next two photos show Lactarius piperatus. I had been seeing this a lot along Terrys Creek recently and was not sure what it was. The second photo demonstrates that it is Lactarius from the latex exuded –

The next photo show a weeping polypore at the base of an Angophora costata. I am not sure if it is possibly Inonotus albertinii or Pseudoinonotus dryadeus. Its the same one I photographed on my previous walk.
