Fungi in Sassafras Gully – 20 May 2020

This was my next trip to Sassafras Gully at Springwood to check out the fungi. This time i started down Fairy Dell and continued down Magdala Creek to Glenbrook Creek, then I walked upstream to the Lagoon, and out via the track at Sassafras Gully Road. I saw a reasonable amount of fungi out, and also got some good exercise.

A friend Liz, had recently seen a lot of Hygrocybe Reesiae out in Fairy Dell. They were still out and easy to spot. There were large troupes of them along the creek in the moss.

Further down, I found some more waxcaps. I saw some Hygrocbe anomola.

Near them were some green waxcaps. They are probably  Hygrocybe pseudograminicolor.

There were also some red waxcaps. I think they are Hygrocybe cantherellus and Hygrocybe erythrocrenata.

Nearby were some other interesting fungi.

Clavulina christata

Leotia lubrica

Clavulinopsis sulcata

I continued down Magdala Creek. The only other interesting fungi I found was a Hydnum repandum

And some Ramaria. They was a in a place that I see them regularly. Here is one –

And then not very much all the way to the Lagoon, where I stopped for lunch. At the campsite, I spotted some interesting fungi that I had seen before. Some small blue-purple coral fungi growing in the moss. I think it is likely to be Ramariopsis pulchella.

amongst it were some small yellow clubs. I think these are Ramariopsis simplex.

After lunch, I started on the track out. Along the way I spotted some nice fungi.

Hygrocybe erythrocrenata

I think this delicate white coral is Ramariopsis kunzea.

And it was nice to find more Hygrocybe reesiae. I don’t often find it in the main valley.

And I found a lot of Gliophorus graminicolor. Here is the first pair –

And some Hygrophorus involutus wth its distinctive droplets.

And ai don’t know what this one is –

Some more Ramariopsis simplex –

Hygrocybe lilaceolamellata

Urnula campylospora

Hygrocybe cantherellus

And the next lot of Gliophorus graminicolor

This one looks like Hygrocybe pseudograminicolor.

And I found these beautiful waxcaps –

And more yellow coral clubs – Clavulinopsis amoena and Clavulinopsis fusiformis.

Hygrocybe sp.

Cortinarius sp.

Near where the Victory Track turns off, I spotted these nice Cordyceps.

Cordyceps gunnii

Ophiocordyceps robertsii

I dint see much as I climbed out. Here is a nice bolete –
