Sassafras Gully Fungi – 24 June 2020

This was a return to Sassafras Gully at Springwood to look for and photograph fungi. I entered the valley via the track at Sassafras Gully Road, walked down as far as the Lagoon and exited via the Wiggins Track.

Hygrocybe anomola var. anomola

At first sight, there was not too much fungi visible, but with a lot of searching, sometimes well off the track, I found reasonable amount. The trip started well. At one spot higher up the side creek, before the Sassafras Gully Road Track meets the Victory Track, I found some waxcaps, a number of Porpolomopsis lewelliniae out.

In the past I have seen this species in the same location, but much earlier in the season. Nearby where some black clubs, Trichoglossum hirstutum

I then continued to the main part of the valley, at concentrated looking in areas close to the junction with the Wiggins Track. As I mentioned above, I had to look hard, and this was rewarded by finding a fair bit. Here are some of the waxcaps –

Gliophorus graaminicolor

Hygrocybe leucogloea

Hygrocybe sp.

Hygrocybe aurantiopallens

Hygrocybe astatogala

Hygrocybe austropratensis

Hygrocybe anomola var. anomola

Hygrocybe virginea and Hygrocybe sp.

Gliophorus chromolimoneus

Hygrocybe iropus

Hygrocybe roseoflavida

Hygrophorus involutus

Hygrocybe sp.

Hygrocybe mavis

And some of the other fungi –

Clavulinopsis fusiformis

Pseudohydnum gelatinosum

Entoloma sp.

Ramariopsis crocea

Ramariopsis pulchella

Hydnum repandum

Ramariopsis simplex

Ramaria lorithamnus
