Like previous recent trips, where I have photographed the fungi at Chatswood, I have spent the afternoon nearby on the Lane Cove River photographing some of the birds. In particular, I wanted to photograph the nesting pair of Ospreys.
It turned out to be fairly quiet visit. One the walk down the river, I photographed this Laughing Kookaburra at the Golf Course –
And a little further down the river, here is one of the Bell Miners –
And a foraging Silvereye –
When I reached the sporting field where the Ospreys have their nest, I saw one of the pair settled on the nest.
I am not sure if this is the male or female, or whether it was brooding – sitting on eggs. It seemed content to stay on the nest, and it was not bothered by any other birds. I was hoping its mate might arrive with a fish, so I settled down to wait.
I waited a long time. Over an hour. At one point, the bird did leave the nest. It flew off towards the river, but returned very quickly. So perhaps there were eggs to guard and incubate?
The sporting field was starting to fill up with athletes, so I thought it was time to leave.
When I visited the athlete field on 5th of August, one of the pair stayed in the nest and didn’t move while I spotted the other flying on the river. I also wonder if they have eggs at last.
