Curra Moors – Wildflower Bonanza – 21 August 2020

This was a walk with Digi Dave around the Curra Moors loop in Royal National Park. We headed out in that area to see the wildflowers, which we had heard where good – but what we say far exceeded our expectations.

Not far from the start of the track, we fund the first orchids – a large cluster of Caladenia orchids. Here are some –

There were also a lot of other wildflowers out –

And here is a Silvereye –

We then met up with the fire road. We turned left and followed the road to Eagle Rock. More wildflowers. The Grass Trees ( Xanthorrhoea sp.) were particularly impressive.

The Kennedia prostrata were abundant –

Some more –

There were also a lot of Sun Orchids out.

We stopped for lunch at Eagle Rock.

Here is Eagle Rock and Curracurrong Falls –

The heath here was full of flowers –

A Rock Warbler –

And a New Holland Honeyeater –

We then followed the Coastal Track south. The first the track crosses is the small Curra Creek with its large waterfall –

Not far to the south another creek is crossed. The creek here is even smaller, but the waterfall is higher. Perhaps the highest waterfall in the Sydney area.

We then left the Coastal Track and followed the fire road once again. More orchids and other wildflowers.

And more birds.

We left the heath to walk back along the final section of track. Here are some of the many Waratahs –

This was  a great day out experiences Nature at its finest.
