Birds at Barton Park – 5 September 2020

It was time for a bike ride to Barton Park and the Landing Lights Wetland. I packed my camera and binoculars.

At Barton Park it was pretty quiet birdwise. But there were some nice birds there. The highlight for me was seeing a pair of Red-kneed Dotterels feeding go the mudflats of the Landing Lights Wetland. This was the first time I had seen these birds there.

There were also small number of Pied Stilts there –

Sometimes the Dotterels seemed to get too close to the Stilts. They were shooed away.

And here is a Chestnut Teal

I then headed up to the higher area. I did spot a White-plumed Honeyeater and a large flock of Red-browed Finches.

Returning back down to the Wetlands, I saw what I though twas a Brown Goshawk make sudden flight and hide in a path of trees. But I could not spot it. Here is a Great Egret

I then left the area. As I was cycling away, near the Eve St Wetlands, I stopped to get a few photos of a Willie Wagtail that was encouraging a Currawong to leave the area. The Willie Wagtail must have a nest nearby.

And then nearby, I heard the trill of a Fan-tailed Cuckoo. It was not hard to spot –

I then continued past Tempe to Sydney Park – to see if I could get more and better photos of the Lewin’s Rails. In this I did not succeed.
