Mudlarks – Cooks River Bird Survey – 8 September 2020

I was able to join the Mudlarks for their early morning bird survey along the Cooks River. This month the group survey upstream from Ewen Park to The Boat Harbour, then across the river to Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands, and down on the true right crossing back over just upstream of Ewen Park (the downstream bridge is being rebuilt). We saw a good range of birds –

Tawny Frogmouths

There were a pair at the Boat Harbour –

And a nesting pair near Younger Avenue.

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Australasian Darter

We saw two of these –

Little black Cormorants

Striated Heron

Willie Wagtail – sitting on a nest

About a metre away was a Magpie Lark feeding chicks in a nest –

Royal Spoonbill

Superb Fairy-wren
