Malabar Headland – 14 October 2020

This was another visit to Malabar Headland National Park to check on the status of the Peregrine Falcons. For the past two years I have been able to see the Falcon’s chicks at about this time of the year.

I saw a lot of one of the Peregrine Falcons, but perhaps did not see the second one, nor any chicks.

On the walk out from Maroubra Beach, I spotted this Swamp Harrier circling around the Rifle Range.

At Magic Point I spotted some Dolphins –

And the Flannel Flowers are blooming nicely and attracting their weevils.

Not far past Dead Mans Gulch, I spotted one of the Peregrine Falcon flying swiftly towards Mistral Point.

And the Slender Onion Orchids are still out.

At the Peregrine Falcon nest area, I spotted one on a perch. I am not sure if this was the same one I had earlier seen flying.

I waited for it to take off –

The Falcon returned looking quite wet.

It flew off again. I am not sure if it was hunting or enjoying the nice breeze.

A pod of whales crushed past.

The Peregrine Falcon returned for a while.

On my way back to Maroubra Beach, I spotted a number of lizards. Here are some –

And near Magic Point, I was entertained by this Golden-headed Cisticola going full blast in all directions with its call.

And one last bird – a Welcome Swallow at the fenced off pond.
