Its been a bit wet lately, so I have not gone fair from home during breaks between showers. During one drier spell, I cycled along the Cooks River to check out some of the local birds and in particular the nesting Tawny Frogmouths.
I first visited the nesting Tawny Frogmouth at the Boat Harbour. I could not see either the second Tawny Frogmouth, nor the chick. I guess the chick is snug sitting under dad on the nest during quite a cold windy day.
Next, I visited the Tawny Frogmouth on the nest near Younger Avenue. No change, its sitting very still on the nest. Again, I could not spot the second bird of the pair.
Then I continued cycling downstream. Here is the one on a nest near Gough Whitlam Park. The nest is in a fenced off area. I could not see any chicks – but the bird did move a bit, which is sign that there may be a chick underneath.
At Gough Whitlam Park, I checked out the Oriole nest I had seen last trip. I could see at least two chicks, possibly three in the nest. Here is one sticking its head up.
And here are a few blue items at the Bowerbird bower on the island.
Checked the Tawny chick, today 28 October, Wednesday. Growing good, much larger.
Hello David, There are TWO Tawny chicks at boat harbour, jocking for position in front of father. The female is two trees down, today Tuesday. Both doing well, very active.
